Garage Door Openers: Repair, Installation and Remotes
Whatever your opener is doing, the answer is one of three jobs: repair it, replace it, or reprogram it. G Brothers does all three on LiftMaster, Genie and Chamberlain openers, and tells you which one your opener needs before any work starts.
What this service covers
Real work by background-checked local technicians, quoted at a flat rate you approve before anything begins.
Opener repair
Gears, sprockets, logic boards, capacitors, travel limits and safety sensors diagnosed and fixed on site where it makes sense.
New opener installation
Chain, belt and wall-mount jackshaft openers installed, set and tested, with smart and battery-backup options.
Remote and keypad programming
New remotes, keypads and vehicle buttons programmed, and the opener memory reset when you need it.
Situations we fix every week
- Your opener clicks, but the door won’t budge?A click means the opener is getting power and trying. The door not moving usually points to a broken spring, a stripped drive gear, or the trolley disconnected. Here's how to tell which. How we fix it
- Not sure if your garage door opener is worth fixing? Most openers we're called about get repaired. We recommend a new one when the drive is worn out, it can't learn new remotes, or it won't hold its settings. Here's how we tell the difference. How we fix it
- Garage door remote or keypad stopped working? If the wall button still opens the door, the opener is fine and the problem is the remote, the keypad or the programming. On most of these calls we reprogram or replace the remote and you're done. How we fix it
- Does your garage door stop before it is fully open or fully closed? The opener has two settings that decide where the door stops: the travel limits and the force. When either drifts, or the door gets harder to move, it stops early or reverses. Here is how to tell which one it is.How we fix it
- Your garage door opener runs, but the door doesn’t move? When the garage door opener motor runs and the door stays put, the motor is turning but nothing is connecting it to the door. The usual causes are a disconnected trolley, a broken belt or chain, or a loose door arm.How we fix it
- Garage door opener humming or buzzing?A hum with no movement usually means the motor is trying and something is holding it back: a stuck door, a worn start part or a failing drive gear. A buzz while it runs is more often loose hardware. Stop pressing the button repeatedly and read the sound first. How we fix it
- Garage door opener completely dead?If the opener has no light, no click and no hum, it is not getting power or its board has failed. Check the plug, the GFCI and the wall console before you assume the opener is finished. How we fix it
- Garage door opens by itself?A door that opens with nobody pressing anything is a security problem and a fault. The usual causes are a stuck button, a remote being pressed in a bag, an old fixed code, or a failing board. Unplug the opener while you track it down. How we fix it
- Opener light stays on or blinks?A light that stays on is often a console setting, a stuck button or a bulb problem. Flashing lights can be the opener telling you it found a fault, often a safety sensor. Check which one you have before you change anything. How we fix it
- LiftMaster opener blinking or flashing?Blink patterns are the opener's way of reporting a fault. The exact meaning depends on your model, so find the label or your manual and match the count. Most patterns fall into a few categories: sensors, travel limits, the motor, the board, or a wall control. How we fix it
- Emergency release cord stuck?A release cord that will not move is usually binding because the opener is pressing on the trolley, or the cord has jammed. Do not yank it. If the door is also heavy, stop, because the real problem may be a spring. How we fix it
- Pulled the release and can't reconnect it?Reconnecting usually means getting the door and the carriage to the same spot so the trolley can latch. If it will not catch, the door may be out of balance, the lever bent, or the arm out of position. How we fix it
- Garage door starts to close, then goes right back up?That's the safety system reversing the door. Usually the sensors can't see each other, or the opener thinks the door hit something. Often it's a quick fix.How we fix it
- Garage door sensor blinking green? On most Chamberlain and LiftMaster-style sensors, a steady light on the receiving eye means a good beam. A blinking or dim green light means the eye is not seeing the beam cleanly, so check alignment, dirt and wiring. How we fix it
- Garage door sensor has no light, or a yellow one?A sensor with no light at all usually has lost power or has a broken wire. A yellow or amber light is normal on some sending eyes and means the unit has power. Compare the two and check your manual for what each color means. How we fix it
- Garage door sensor works only sometimes? An on-and-off sensor problem is usually environmental: sun, a spider web, vibration, a loose wire or a sensor mounted too high or low. The pattern of when it fails is your best clue. How we fix it
- Need a quiet garage door opener for a room above the garage?A belt-drive opener is the usual answer, because a rubber-reinforced belt runs much quieter than a metal chain. A wall-mount opener helps too, since the motor is off the ceiling. A noisy door can still be loud with a good opener, so check that too.How we fix it
- Getting a new garage door: do you replace the opener too?Keep the opener if it is modern, has working safety sensors, and is strong enough for the new door. Replace it if it is old, loud, or the new door is heavier or taller. Installing both together is common, and the opener is set for the new door in the same visit. How we fix it
- Does your tall or 8-foot garage door need a different opener?A standard garage door opener comes with a rail for a 7-foot door. A taller door, an 8-foot door or a high-lift track needs a longer rail, or a rail extension, so the garage door opener can lift the door all the way.How we fix it
- Got stuck in the garage in a power outage? Get a battery backup opener.A garage door opener with battery backup keeps the garage door opener running when the power is out, so you can open and close the door normally. Many current openers offer it, and it can go in with a new opener. How we fix it
- Belt drive or chain drive opener?Choose belt if the garage shares a wall or ceiling with living space. Choose chain if you want a tough, simple drive and noise is not a worry. Either works well when it matches the door and is installed properly. How we fix it
