What is the difference between myQ and Genie Aladdin Connect?

Short answer

myQ (LiftMaster/Chamberlain) and Genie's Aladdin Connect both let you monitor and control your garage door from a phone. Neither supports Apple HomeKit natively as of 2026. myQ has broader delivery integrations including Amazon Key. Aladdin Connect covers Alexa, Google Home, and Samsung Bixby. For HomeKit on either brand, a wired third-party bridge is needed.

myQ and Aladdin Connect are the two main smart garage platforms sold by the top two residential opener brands in the U.S. G Brothers sells and services both Genie (Aladdin Connect) and LiftMaster/Chamberlain (myQ) openers. Customers often ask which smart system is better. The honest answer is that they are close in most ways. But they differ on two key points: Apple HomeKit support and delivery integrations. Understanding those two differences is usually enough to make the right choice for your household.

What myQ and Aladdin Connect share

Both systems do the same core job: let you open, close, and monitor your garage door from a smartphone app, from anywhere with an internet connection.

Both offer: - Remote open and close via a free app - Real-time door status showing open or closed - Activity history with timestamps for each door event - Push notifications when the door opens or closes - Guest access so you can let in a contractor or family member remotely - Works with voice assistants through third-party integrations

Both systems require a compatible opener and a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection at home. Neither requires a monthly subscription for basic features. The apps are free to download for iOS and Android.

If all you need is phone control of your garage door and push alerts, both systems deliver that well. They are close enough that a coin flip would serve most buyers fine. The differences matter when you add a smart home platform like Apple HomeKit or when you want in-garage package delivery. Those two features are where the systems diverge.

It is also worth knowing how each adds Wi-Fi to an older opener. myQ sells a separate Smart Garage Hub that adds Wi-Fi to any LiftMaster or Chamberlain opener with a learn button. Genie sells a separate Aladdin Connect adapter that does the same for compatible older Genie openers. Both are low-cost retrofit options. Newer openers from both brands often have Wi-Fi built in, so no add-on is needed.

Apple HomeKit: neither system supports it natively

Neither myQ nor Aladdin Connect supports Apple HomeKit natively as of 2026.

myQ dropped its HomeKit integration in 2023 when Chamberlain Group cut off third-party API access. Getting myQ to work with HomeKit requires a third-party bridge such as a Meross MSG100HK (wired, about $30 to $40) or a ratgdo board (DIY, about $25 to $40).

Aladdin Connect (Genie) does not have a native HomeKit integration either. Genie has not announced a timeframe for adding HomeKit support. The same third-party bridge approach works for Genie: a Meross MSG100HK wired to the wall button terminals adds HomeKit to any Genie opener regardless of model.

This means if HomeKit is your priority, neither brand gives you a clean built-in solution today. Both require a $30 to $40 add-on device. In that respect they are equal. The workaround is straightforward and widely used, but it is still a workaround.

If you use Google Home, Amazon Alexa, or Samsung Bixby instead of HomeKit, neither brand requires any extra hardware. Aladdin Connect supports all three through built-in integrations on current models. myQ supports Alexa and Google Home through official integrations.

If you use Google Home or Amazon Alexa as your main smart home platform, this difference does not matter. myQ integrates with both. Aladdin Connect also works with Google Home and Amazon Alexa.

Delivery integrations

myQ is the only smart garage system with native Amazon Key in-garage delivery. When you link your myQ account to Amazon Prime, Amazon delivery drivers can place packages inside your garage using a one-time verified access per delivery. The door opens only when an active delivery for your address is confirmed by Amazon's system. The driver enters, places the package, and leaves. The door closes automatically. You get a push notification with the time of delivery. On camera-equipped LiftMaster openers, you also get a photo showing the door closed. This is the biggest practical advantage myQ has over Aladdin Connect for most households.

The cost is $1.99 per Amazon order for in-garage delivery, or free when you use Amazon Day with Key, which batches eligible orders into a single delivery day. If you order from Amazon frequently, Amazon Day with Key can make in-garage delivery free on most orders.

myQ also supports Walmart+ Key delivery on compatible openers. This is a similar in-garage service for Walmart+ members. The myQ app lists current supported delivery services in your area.

Aladdin Connect does not support Amazon Key or any equivalent in-garage delivery service as of 2026. Genie does not have a delivery integration that matches myQ's Amazon Key partnership. If in-garage delivery is the main reason you are considering a smart opener, myQ is the clear choice.

Compatible openers

System Works with
myQ LiftMaster and Chamberlain openers with yellow/red/purple learn button (1993+); also via Smart Garage Hub add-on for older compatible models
Aladdin Connect Select Genie openers with built-in Aladdin Connect Wi-Fi (7155, D7155L, E7155L, 3155, 3142, and others); older Genie openers via the separate Aladdin Connect add-on device

If you already have a Genie opener that is compatible with Aladdin Connect, that is your smart system. If you have a LiftMaster or Chamberlain opener, myQ is your system. The two platforms do not cross between brands. You cannot use a myQ hub with a Genie opener, and you cannot add Aladdin Connect to a LiftMaster opener.

Which system to choose for a new opener

If you are buying a new opener and smart home integration matters to you, the choice comes down to your ecosystem.

Choose Genie with Aladdin Connect if: - You use Google Home, Alexa, or Samsung Bixby as your main voice platform - You do not use Amazon Prime delivery or do not want in-garage delivery - You want the quieter belt-drive options in Genie's lineup (SilentMax, StealthDrive) - Note: HomeKit requires a third-party add-on device on Genie, same as myQ

Choose LiftMaster or Chamberlain with myQ if: - You want Amazon Key in-garage delivery - You use Alexa or Google Home as your main voice assistant - You want camera options built into the opener (LiftMaster 87xxx series) - HomeKit is not a priority for your household

Both brands make reliable, quiet openers across a similar price range. The opener hardware quality is close at the same price point. The smart platform choice is really about your phone ecosystem and whether you need in-garage delivery.

A few practical points for Denver homeowners to keep in mind. First, both apps work fine in areas with normal home Wi-Fi coverage, but a garage at the edge of your Wi-Fi signal may have connection issues regardless of which platform you choose. A simple Wi-Fi extender in the garage fixes this for either system. Second, both apps show your door status and history even when you are traveling. This is useful during Denver winters when you want to confirm the door is closed after a cold-snap trip to the grocery store. Third, if you have both a Genie opener and a LiftMaster opener in your home (for example, two separate bays installed at different times), you will need both apps running in parallel. There is no single app that manages both brands.

G Brothers carries and installs both Genie and LiftMaster/Chamberlain openers across the Denver metro and Front Range. If you are not sure which platform fits your household, we can walk you through the options on-site and install the right opener the same day, with free estimates.
