Are Genie garage door openers compatible with Chamberlain myQ?
No. Genie openers are not compatible with the Chamberlain myQ ecosystem. Genie uses its own Aladdin Connect smart platform. myQ is a Chamberlain Group product designed for Chamberlain and LiftMaster openers only. The two systems run on separate protocols and do not communicate with each other natively.
Many homeowners search for ways to add a Genie opener to the myQ ecosystem after seeing myQ mentioned in garage door advertising or after buying a home with a Genie opener already installed. The short answer is that the two systems are not compatible. Here is why, what each platform actually does, and what your real options are if you want smart control of a Genie opener.
Why Genie and myQ are not compatible
myQ is a smart home platform from Chamberlain Group. Chamberlain Group makes Chamberlain and LiftMaster openers. The myQ platform talks to openers through Chamberlain's proprietary wireless protocol called Security+2.0. This protocol is built into Chamberlain and LiftMaster circuit boards. It is not a universal standard. Genie opener boards do not use Security+2.0. They cannot talk to the myQ gateway or hub.
Aladdin Connect is Genie's own smart home platform. It is also proprietary. The Aladdin Connect module wires to the Genie opener's door control terminals. It talks through Genie's own wireless protocol. Aladdin Connect works with Genie openers only. It does not work with Chamberlain or LiftMaster.
The gap runs in both directions. You cannot add a Genie opener to myQ. You cannot add a Chamberlain or LiftMaster opener to Aladdin Connect. The two platforms are fully separate.
Both platforms came from a time when each garage door brand wanted its own app and its own cloud. The result is fragmentation: switching opener brands means switching ecosystems. There is no universal smart garage platform that works across brands the way a generic smart plug works across any outlet.
What each platform can do on its own
| Feature | Chamberlain myQ | Genie Aladdin Connect |
|---|---|---|
| Open/close remotely | Yes | Yes |
| Door status monitoring | Yes | Yes |
| Activity history | Yes | Yes |
| Guest access sharing | Yes | Yes |
| Amazon Alexa | Yes | Yes |
| Google Home | Yes | Yes |
| Apple HomeKit | No (myQ Home Bridge discontinued 2023) | No (no certification) |
| Amazon Key In-Garage Delivery | Yes (native) | Yes (via Aladdin Connect app) |
| Works on Genie openers | No | Yes |
| Works on Chamberlain/LiftMaster | Yes | No |
Amazon Key In-Garage Delivery is available through both myQ and Genie's Aladdin Connect platform. Genie partnered with Amazon to support Amazon Key for eligible Prime members who own compatible Aladdin Connect openers or controllers. If Amazon Key delivery is your primary reason to add smart control, either platform can support it.
Can I add myQ capability to a Genie opener?
No. There is no official Chamberlain product that adds myQ capability to a Genie opener. The myQ system requires the Chamberlain Security+2.0 protocol at the opener circuit board. This protocol is not retrofittable onto a Genie board through any currently available consumer product.
There are some third-party approaches that give limited smart control. The Meross MSG100HK and similar hardware bridges connect to the two-wire door control terminal on any opener and add basic smart control through the bridge's own app or through Apple HomeKit. These devices do not add myQ access. They work around the ecosystem problem by connecting directly to the opener hardware instead of to the manufacturer's cloud. The result is open/close control and door status, but without the full myQ feature set (no Amazon Key, no Chamberlain activity log).
The Chamberlain MYQ-G0401 retrofit hub is sometimes suggested as a solution. It adds myQ capability to older Chamberlain and LiftMaster openers that were built before built-in myQ was standard. It is not designed for Genie openers and will not work with them. The product specification lists Chamberlain and LiftMaster as the supported brands only.
What to do if you want smart features on a Genie opener
You have two realistic paths:
Option 1: Use Aladdin Connect as intended. The Genie Aladdin Connect module provides remote open/close control, activity history, Alexa/Google Home integration, and Amazon Key In-Garage Delivery support for eligible Prime members. The module costs $64.25 from the Genie store and wires directly to any Genie opener with a door control terminal. This is the right choice for most homeowners who want smart control of a Genie opener.
Option 2: Replace the opener. If you want myQ specifically for features unique to Chamberlain's ecosystem (such as the myQ activity log or deep integration with Chamberlain accessories), the most direct solution is to replace the Genie opener with a Chamberlain or LiftMaster model that supports myQ natively. Current myQ-equipped models in LiftMaster's and Chamberlain's lineup include chain and belt drive options with built-in Wi-Fi. G Brothers can quote a replacement installation alongside any garage door work.
Common questions about Genie and myQ
Will the Genie Aladdin Connect app and the myQ app work together? No. They are separate apps tied to separate cloud accounts. There is no official integration between them.
Can I use a smart home hub like SmartThings or Home Assistant to bridge Genie and myQ? Unofficial Home Assistant community plugins exist for both Aladdin Connect and myQ. In theory, a Home Assistant installation could see both systems and allow them to be scripted together. This is a DIY solution that requires running your own home server and is outside the scope of manufacturer support for either system.
What if I already have myQ and I replace the opener with a Genie model? You will lose your myQ access when the Chamberlain opener is removed. To keep myQ, you need to keep a Chamberlain or LiftMaster opener.
Is Aladdin Connect free to use? The base Aladdin Connect tier is free. Genie offers a paid tier with additional features. The free tier includes standard open/close remote control and monitoring.

Here is a quick reference for the most common compatibility questions:
| If you have this | And you want this | Your best option |
|---|---|---|
| Genie opener | Aladdin Connect smart control | Buy the Aladdin Connect module directly from Genie |
| Genie opener | myQ access | Not available; replace opener with Chamberlain or LiftMaster |
| Genie opener | Amazon Key delivery | Available via Aladdin Connect on compatible Wi-Fi Genie openers |
| Genie opener | Apple HomeKit | Use Meross MSG100HK bridge (see HomeKit FAQ) |
| Genie opener | Alexa or Google Home | Use Aladdin Connect (natively supported) |
| Chamberlain/LiftMaster opener | Aladdin Connect | Not possible; use myQ instead |
| Chamberlain/LiftMaster opener | Amazon Key delivery | Use myQ (natively supported) |
The garage door opener ecosystem is brand-specific. The smart platform you get depends on the opener brand, not on which app you prefer. If the features you need are not in your current opener's ecosystem, the most reliable fix is to switch brands.
If you are buying a new opener and smart features matter, pick the ecosystem first. Chamberlain and LiftMaster give you myQ and Amazon Key. Genie gives you Aladdin Connect with Alexa and Google Home. Neither brand supports Apple HomeKit natively.
The Chamberlain Group, which makes both Chamberlain and LiftMaster, ended third-party smart home integration access in 2024. This covers SmartThings and Google Home direct API. Some homeowners moved to Genie after that change. Genie's Aladdin Connect still allows Alexa, Google Home, and Amazon Key. Both platforms change over time. Check geniecompany.com and myq.com for the current integration status before you buy.
