Does myQ still charge a monthly fee for Amazon Key In-Garage Delivery?
No. Amazon dropped the monthly subscription model for Key In-Garage Delivery. The current cost is $1.99 per delivery order for standard deliveries. If you choose Amazon Day Delivery (once-a-week bundled delivery), the per-order fee is waived. Amazon Prime membership is required.
Amazon Key In-Garage Delivery was originally offered with a monthly subscription fee through the myQ platform. Amazon has since moved to a per-delivery pricing model. Many homeowners who remember the old subscription are unsure what the current pricing is. Here is what it actually costs now, who qualifies, and how the setup works.
Current pricing: $1.99 per order or free with Amazon Day
As of 2025, Amazon Key In-Garage Delivery costs $1.99 per delivery order for standard delivery. This is not a monthly charge. You pay $1.99 each time you choose Key In-Garage as your delivery option at checkout, for orders where Amazon is the seller and fulfillment carrier. If you do not select it at checkout, you pay nothing.
Amazon Day Delivery waives the $1.99 fee. Amazon Day is a weekly consolidated delivery option available to Prime members. You choose one day per week, and Amazon bundles your eligible orders into a single delivery on that day. When you select Amazon Day and your packages are delivered to your garage, the per-order fee is waived. If you regularly use Amazon Day Delivery, Key In-Garage is effectively free.
Amazon Prime is required. Key In-Garage Delivery is a Prime member benefit. If your Prime membership lapses, you lose access to the feature until you renew.
The old monthly fee model ($19.99/month in some markets) has been discontinued. You do not need any separate Key subscription. The cost is purely per-order when you opt in.
Who can use Amazon Key In-Garage Delivery
Amazon Key In-Garage Delivery requires a myQ-compatible garage door opener and a myQ account linked to your Amazon account. The myQ platform is made by Chamberlain Group, which also makes LiftMaster. Any opener with a built-in myQ module or a retrofit myQ hub can participate.
Compatible setups include:
- Chamberlain or LiftMaster openers with a yellow or purple Learn button and a built-in Wi-Fi module (most models from 2011 onward).
- Older Chamberlain or LiftMaster openers with a yellow, red, purple, or green Learn button, upgraded with the Chamberlain MYQ-G0401 retrofit hub (around $65).
- Any Chamberlain or LiftMaster opener sold with "myQ" branding.
Not compatible:
- Genie openers (Genie uses Aladdin Connect, not myQ).
- Openers without a Learn button (pre-1993 models with DIP switches only).
- Very old openers on a 433 MHz blue Learn button frequency (not compatible with the myQ hub).
- Third-party openers (Ryobi, Craftsman pre-2021, etc.) that do not have a myQ integration.
How the delivery process works
When you place an order on Amazon and select Key In-Garage Delivery at checkout, this is what happens:
- Amazon assigns the delivery to a Key-certified driver. Not every Amazon delivery driver is Key-certified. Amazon schedules your delivery with a driver who has been trained for in-garage delivery.
- When the driver arrives, the myQ system receives a request from Amazon. The garage door opens for a one-time, time-limited entry.
- The driver places the package inside the garage. The garage door closes automatically after the driver signals the delivery is complete.
- You receive a push notification that the delivery happened. The myQ activity log shows the door open and close event with a timestamp.
- The door closes and locks. The driver cannot re-open it. The access token expires after the delivery.
The driver does not have access to the interior of the house. The Key In-Garage Delivery zone is limited to the garage. The garage-to-house door remains locked throughout the process.
Amazon requires Key-certified drivers to record a photo or video of the package placed inside the garage. If a delivery dispute arises, Amazon has the delivery record.
Setting up Amazon Key In-Garage Delivery
If you already have myQ set up on your opener, linking Amazon Key is done through the myQ app:
- Open the myQ app and go to the settings for your garage door device.
- Select "Link Amazon Account" or find the Amazon Key option in the integrations menu.
- Sign in to your Amazon account when prompted. This links the two accounts.
- In your Amazon account settings, go to "Manage Your Content and Devices" and look for the In-Garage Delivery setting. Enable it.
- The next time you check out on Amazon, Key In-Garage Delivery will appear as a delivery option for eligible orders.
If you do not have myQ set up, the process starts with adding a myQ hub or confirming your opener has a built-in myQ module. Chamberlain's support page at support.chamberlaingroup.com has a compatibility checker tool.
Safety, security, and common questions about pricing
The most common concern about Key In-Garage Delivery is security: a delivery driver who can open your garage.
A few points:
- The access is one-time and time-limited. The driver cannot re-enter after the delivery is complete.
- Drivers must be Amazon Key-certified. Amazon reports that Key drivers undergo background checks.
- The myQ log records every door event. If your door opens unexpectedly, you will see it in the app.
- The door does not have access to the house. The garage-to-house door is a separate barrier. Key delivery does not affect it.
- If you are uncomfortable with a specific delivery, you can cancel the Key delivery option on that order and choose standard delivery instead.
The myQ system sends a push alert to your phone every time a Key delivery event triggers the door. You see the event in near real time even when you are away from home.
G Brothers installs and services myQ-compatible LiftMaster and Chamberlain openers throughout the Denver metro and Front Range. If your current opener is not compatible with myQ or Amazon Key, we can replace it and configure the myQ and Amazon link the same day. Contact us for a free estimate.
Pricing details:
Does the $1.99 fee apply to every item in an order? No. The $1.99 charge is per delivery order, not per item. If you have three items in one delivery order, you pay $1.99 once for that delivery, not three times.
What if I have multiple packages delivered the same day? If all packages are in a single delivery order, you pay one $1.99 fee. If you have two separate orders being delivered on the same day, each one is a separate charge.
Can I cancel Key delivery after placing an order? Yes. Before the delivery happens, you can change the delivery option to standard delivery in your Amazon order details. After the delivery is in progress, the option may be locked.
Does Key In-Garage work with Subscribe and Save? Yes. Subscribe and Save deliveries are eligible for Key In-Garage Delivery under the same $1.99 per order pricing. If you use Amazon Day Delivery for your Subscribe and Save items, the fee is waived.
What happens if the delivery driver cannot open the garage? If the myQ connection fails or the driver cannot complete the Key delivery, Amazon will attempt standard delivery (leaving the package at the door) or reattempt delivery the next day. You receive a notification if the Key delivery fails.
Does the $1.99 fee apply to third-party sellers on Amazon? Key In-Garage Delivery is available for orders sold and shipped by Amazon. Orders from third-party sellers on Amazon Marketplace are generally not eligible. Check the delivery options at checkout to confirm eligibility for a specific order.
Is there a way to use Key delivery without myQ? No. Amazon Key In-Garage Delivery requires the myQ platform. There is no compatible bridge or workaround for Genie, Ryobi, or other non-myQ openers. If you want Key delivery and currently have a Genie opener, you need to replace it with a myQ-compatible Chamberlain or LiftMaster model.
G Brothers can install a myQ-compatible opener and complete the Amazon Key setup the same day. We serve the Denver metro and Front Range with same-day service. Contact us for a free estimate before your next installation.
