What a new door installation in Lakewood includes
It starts with a free estimate at your home. We measure the opening, the room above the door and at each side, check your opener, and show you doors that suit the house. We are licensed and insured.
On install day the crew:
- Removes the old door, track and springs and hauls them away.
- Hangs the new door on new track with new torsion springs, rollers, hinges and a bottom weather seal.
- Reconnects your opener or installs a new one. More than a third of Lakewood homeowners added a new opener with the door; see whether your opener can stay.
- Balances the door, sets the opener’s travel and force, and tests the auto-reverse and the photo eyes before we leave.
How long it takes
A typical Lakewood install takes about two and a half hours on site. Move the cars out and clear a path to the door before the crew arrives. A job that adds low-headroom track, a second door or a new opener takes longer. Here is what to expect on installation day.
Choosing a door for a Lakewood home
We install residential doors from Amarr, C.H.I., Ankmar, Doorlink and Northwest Door. What Lakewood homeowners weighed most:
- Insulation: 80 of our 127 Lakewood installs were insulated doors, which help an attached garage hold its heat in winter and run quieter. Compare R-values by collection.
- Size: two-car doors outnumbered one-car doors about two to one. Most new doors fit the opening you have; see the common garage door sizes.
- Headroom: some older Lakewood garages have little space above the door. Low-headroom track lets a new sectional door fit without changing the opening.
- Windows and style: about one in three chose windows. Popular looks include carriage house and full-view glass.
- Old wood doors and HOA rules: see replacing an old wood door and replacing a door under HOA rules.
What affects the cost of a new garage door
The price of installing a new garage door depends on the door you choose: one-car or two-car, insulated or not, the style and the windows, and the brand and collection. Low-headroom or high-lift track, a new garage door opener and any change to the opening add to it. We give you one flat-rate price at the free estimate, before anything is ordered, and payment plans are available.
Can a carpenter or handyman install a garage door?
A carpenter can frame or reframe the opening. Hanging the door is different: its torsion springs are wound under heavy tension and have to be sized to the door, and the opener has to be set so the door reverses when something is in its way. That is work for a garage door company with the right tools and parts.
Do you need a permit in Lakewood?
A new door of the same size in the same opening is a like-for-like replacement, which usually needs no permit. Widening the opening, changing the header or adding a new door usually does, so check with the City of Lakewood before that kind of work. More on when a garage door needs a permit and turning two single doors into one double.
Is a repair enough?
Often it is. A broken spring, a snapped cable or one dented section does not mean the whole door has to go, and we will say so. Start with garage door repair in Lakewood or spring repair in Lakewood. A new door is the better buy when several sections are damaged, panels for your model are no longer made, or the door is drafty and loud. See repair or replace your garage door.
