Garage door replacement

Want the carriage house look on your new garage door?

A carriage house door is a steel sectional door styled to look like swinging barn-style doors, with decorative hardware and often arched or stacked windows. It works like any sectional door, so it can be insulated too.

Is this what you're seeing?

  • You like the old carriage house look but want a door that rolls up and has an opener.

  • You want arched windows, handles and hinges for curb appeal.

  • You are choosing between a flat panel door and a carriage style.

  • You want to know whether a carriage-style door can be insulated and what the wait is.

What's going on

The carriage look is added to a normal sectional door: panels stamped to look like boards, with strap hinges and handles on the front and, often, windows in an arch or a row. Underneath it runs on the same track, springs and opener as any other door. See custom carriage-style garage doors.

Our install records show carriage-style doors, mostly fully insulated where the record says, with windows in most and a range of colors. One record notes that a carriage-style door takes 6 to 8 weeks to arrive, which is a special-order wait to plan around.

What to do right now

Do

  • Pick your color and window style early. Special-order doors take longer than stock doors.

  • Check your HOA’s rules on style and color if you have one.

  • Measure your opening, headroom and side room so the door can be quoted properly.

Don't

  • Don’t order a carriage door online without checking it fits your headroom and track.

  • Don’t assume the hardware is functional. On most carriage doors it is decorative.
