Signs a high-speed door needs repair
It opens or closes slower than it used to, or stops partway.
It reverses for no reason, or will not close at all.
It does not open when a forklift or a person comes up to it.
The curtain or bottom bar came out of the guides after a hit.
The fabric is torn, or the door no longer seals at the sides or the floor.
The control panel shows a fault code, or the motor hums without moving the door.
What a high-speed door is
A high-speed door opens and closes many times faster than a standard sectional or rolling steel door. Most use a flexible fabric or vinyl curtain instead of steel slats, so the door can travel fast without the weight of a steel curtain. Warehouses, food plants, freezers, clean rooms and busy dock areas use them to keep heat, cold, dust and pests on the right side of the wall without slowing down traffic. For how they compare with other commercial doors, see when a high-speed fabric door is the right choice.
After a forklift hits the door
High-speed doors live in busy openings, so they get hit. Many are built for it, with a bottom bar that breaks away from the guides instead of bending. Some reset on their own, and some need the curtain fed back into the guides by hand. When a hit tears the fabric, bends a guide or damages the bottom bar, we repair the parts that took the impact and run the door through full cycles before we leave. A door that keeps getting hit may need its activation or timing changed so it opens sooner, and we will tell you on the visit.
Motors, controls and sensors
A high-speed door depends on its controls more than any other door. The motor and drive move the curtain, the control panel sets its speed and limits, and the sensors decide when it opens and when it is safe to close. A slow, stuck or reversing door is often a sensor out of line, a worn part in the drive, or a setting that has drifted. We check the whole system together, on any brand, and we work on every operator type rather than one manufacturer line.
High-speed door installation
We install high-speed doors in new openings and in place of doors that can no longer keep up. The right door depends on the opening, how many times a day it runs, whether it separates a cold or clean space, and how it will be opened. Your estimate is free, and we can walk the opening with you to compare a high-speed door with a sectional or rolling steel door.
The rest of your doors on the same visit
The building with a high-speed door usually has other doors too. The same technician can handle commercial garage door repair on the sectional and rolling steel doors, loading dock doors, and new garage door installation when a door is past repair. A commercial maintenance plan can put every door on one schedule.
Before the technician arrives
If a high-speed door is stuck partway or out of its guides, take it out of use and keep traffic away from it. Do not drive through a door that is partly closed, and do not try to force the curtain back into the guides while the door has power. If the opening separates a cold room or a clean area, tell us when you call. When you call, tell us the brand if you know it, what the door is doing, any fault code on the panel, and how many times a day it runs.
