Dock Leveler Repair in Denver
When a dock leveler will not rise or hold a load, trucks wait and the dock stops. G Brothers repairs dock levelers, dock seals and dock bumpers across the Denver metro, along with the loading dock door above them, with 24/7 emergency dispatch and common parts on the truck.
What this service covers
Real work by background-checked local technicians, quoted at a flat rate you approve before anything begins.
Dock levelers
Mechanical, hydraulic and air-powered levelers that will not rise, will not stay level, drop too fast or will not let the lip extend.
Lips, hinges and springs
Bent or stuck lips, worn hinge pins, and the springs and chains that lift a mechanical deck.
Hydraulics and controls
Leaking cylinders and hoses, a weak or noisy power unit, and push-button controls that do nothing.
Dock seals
Torn, flattened or worn seal pads and head pads that no longer close the gap around a trailer.
Dock bumpers
Worn, cracked or missing bumpers replaced before trailers start hitting the building.
The dock door above it
Springs, track, sections and operators on the same visit, through our loading dock door repair work.
Signs a dock leveler needs repair
The deck will not rise when you pull the chain or press the button.
The lip will not extend, will not fold back, or does not rest flat on the trailer bed.
The deck sits above or below the dock floor when it is stored.
The deck drops fast or bounces when a forklift drives onto it.
Oil on the pit floor, or the deck rises slowly on a hydraulic unit.
Loud bangs, grinding or a deck that rocks under a load.
What a dock leveler does
A dock leveler is the hinged steel deck at the edge of a loading dock. Trailer beds sit at different heights, so the deck tilts up or down and puts its lip on the trailer floor. That gives a forklift or a pallet jack a safe ramp between the building and the truck. When a leveler stops working, the dock usually stops with it.
Mechanical, hydraulic and air-powered levelers
Mechanical levelers lift on springs. Someone pulls a chain to release the deck, it rises, and the operator walks it down onto the trailer. Worn springs, a stretched chain or a sticky hold-down are the usual faults. Hydraulic levelers raise the deck with a cylinder and a small power unit at the push of a button. Leaks, low fluid, a tired pump and worn seals are the common problems. Air-powered levelers lift the deck on an air bag filled by a blower. A torn bag or a blower that has failed will leave the deck flat. Tell us which kind you have when you call, so the technician brings the right parts.
Dock seals and dock bumpers
A dock seal is the padded frame around the dock door that presses against the back of the trailer. It keeps out weather, dust and pests, and it keeps heated or cooled air inside while the truck is loaded. Once the pads are torn or flattened, the gaps around the trailer let all of that through, so we replace the worn pads and head pads. Dock bumpers sit on the dock face below the door. They take the hit when a trailer backs in, so the wall, the leveler and the door do not. A cracked or missing bumper puts that force into the building, so we replace bumpers before the damage spreads.
One dock, one visit
A loading position works only when the door, the leveler, the seal and the bumpers all work together. A door that will not open all the way keeps the leveler from running, and a bent bumper can let a trailer push into the door. Because we work on the whole position, one technician can check the leveler, the seal, the bumpers and the dock door on the same visit. If the doors on your building need regular service, a commercial maintenance plan can cover the dock too.
Before the technician arrives
If a leveler is stuck up, stuck down or will not hold a load, take it out of use. Keep forklifts and people off the deck, and do not stand under a raised deck or lip. Do not try to free a stuck lip with a forklift. If a trailer is at the dock, keep it there until the leveler is safe to cross or is stored. When you call, tell us the type of leveler, what it is doing, and how many trucks the dock handles in a day.
