24-hour garage door repair
Garage door broke after hours?
Some garage door problems can safely wait until morning and some cannot. If the house is open, the door is hanging, or someone is trapped, call tonight. If it is shut and secure, you can rest.
Is this what you're seeing?
The door stopped working in the evening, overnight or on a weekend.
You are not sure whether this is an emergency or can wait.
The garage is closed and the car is inside or out.
You hear the opener but nothing moves.
You need to decide whether to pay for after-hours service.
What's going on
Most breakdowns are not truly emergencies. A door that is closed, locked and straight with a broken spring or dead opener is not going anywhere, and nobody is hurt. It is inconvenient, but it can wait. The ones that cannot wait are doors that are stuck open, a door hanging off a track, a person or pet trapped, or a door that threatens to fall.
The first question is whether the house is secure. If the garage door is shut, the door into the house is locked, and you do not need the car, tonight is a good time to do nothing. Call in the morning and tell us what you saw and heard. A good description helps: a bang suggests a spring, a clicking opener suggests power or a limit setting, a dropped corner suggests a cable.
When it cannot wait, we do take after-hours calls through our 24-hour garage door repair. We do not promise an arrival time we cannot keep, and we will tell you plainly what the dispatcher knows when you call.
What to do right now
Do
Decide first whether the house and people are safe. That sets the urgency.
If the door is closed and straight, leave it closed and lock the interior door.
Unplug the opener if it is acting strangely.
Take photos and notes about sounds and what you saw. It makes the call faster.
Don't
Do not use the wall button or remote repeatedly. It can make a broken part worse.
Do not climb a ladder to look at the springs or cables.
Do not pull the red release cord unless the door is fully closed and no spring is broken.
Do not leave an open door unsecured overnight if you can call for help.
How we fix it
The visit is covered by 24-hour garage door repair. The technician makes the door safe, locates the failed part, repairs it with parts on the truck where possible, and tests the door. If a part must be ordered, we will make sure the door is secured until it arrives.
Repair or replace?
After-hours calls are mostly repairs: springs, cables, openers, or a roller that came off the track. A new door is rarely an emergency. If your door is old or damaged and we think replacement may be worth it, we will say so during daylight. You can read about when to replace a garage door.
If you decide to wait until morning, our same-day repair service is the next step.
