Garage door track repair

Garage door came off its track?

When rollers leave the track, the door is no longer guided and can fall or twist further. Stop using it and leave it where it is. We put it back and fix what pushed it out.

Is this what you're seeing?

  • One or more rollers have popped out of the metal track on the side.

  • The door is stuck partway, tilted, or bowed in or out.

  • The track is bent, maybe after a car or mower bumped it.

  • The door scraped, jerked or made a grinding noise before it stopped.

What's going on

Rollers on each side of the door ride inside the vertical track and the horizontal track. If a track gets bent, its brackets loosen, or a roller wears out, the roller can slip out and the door loses its guide.

A car or bin hitting the door is a common cause. So are a broken cable or spring that lets one side drop, and worn rollers that bind instead of rolling.

What to do right now

Do

  • Unplug the opener so it can’t pull the door further out.

  • Keep people and cars away from the door.

  • Take a photo of where the door stopped. It helps us plan the fix.

Don't

  • Don’t hammer the track or force the rollers back in with the door under tension.

  • Don’t lift or pull the door to straighten it.

  • Don’t pull the emergency release while the door is out of the track.
