Does the Genie Aladdin Connect work with Apple HomeKit?

Short answer

No. Genie Aladdin Connect does not support Apple HomeKit natively. It works with Amazon Alexa and Google Home but not HomeKit. To control a Genie opener through HomeKit, you need a third-party bridge device: the Meross MSG100HK (typically $35 to $50) or a HOOBS server. Both connect to any opener via the wall button terminals.

Genie's Aladdin Connect smart home system works with Amazon Alexa and Google Home out of the box. Apple HomeKit is not supported. Genie has not released a HomeKit integration and has not announced one.

If you want to control your Genie opener through the Apple Home app or use Siri to open the garage, you need a third-party bridge device. The two most common options are the Meross MSG100HK and a HOOBS server. The Meross typically costs $35 to $50 and is HomeKit-certified. HOOBS is a software bridge that connects non-HomeKit smart devices to Apple Home. Both work with Genie openers and most other brands.

What Aladdin Connect does and does not support

Aladdin Connect is Genie's built-in Wi-Fi and smart home module. On compatible Genie openers, it is integrated into the motor head. On older Genie openers, you add it as a separate Door Control Module (DCM) that wires to the same terminals as the wall switch.

Aladdin Connect native integrations:

Platform Support Notes
Amazon Alexa Yes Full open/close/status via Alexa skill
Google Home Yes Open/close/status via Google Home app
Apple HomeKit No No native support; requires bridge
SmartThings No No official integration
Home Assistant Limited Unofficial integration via HACS

Aladdin Connect requires 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi in the garage with a signal of at least -65 dBm (about two bars). The app shows door status and lets you open or close from anywhere. It sends push notifications when the door is left open. These features work through Genie's own app regardless of which voice assistant you pair it with.

Option 1: Meross MSG100HK (easiest HomeKit fix)

The Meross MSG100HK is a HomeKit-certified smart garage door controller. It connects to any opener, including Genie models. You wire it to the wall button terminals on the opener. A magnetic tilt sensor on the door reports open/close status to HomeKit.

What you get with the Meross MSG100HK: - Full Apple HomeKit support, including automations, Siri commands, and Home app control - Works alongside the existing Aladdin Connect system (both can be active at the same time) - Door status shown in Apple Home as a garage door tile - Support for multiple HomeKit users and shared household access - No monthly subscription required

Installation overview:

  1. Mount the magnetic tilt sensor on the top panel of the door with one screw or the included adhesive pad
  2. Run the two wires from the MSG100HK to the wall button terminals on the opener; these are the same two terminals your wall push button uses
  3. Plug the MSG100HK into a standard 120V outlet near the opener
  4. Open the Apple Home app, tap the + icon, and scan the HomeKit QR code printed on the MSG100HK

The whole process takes about 20 minutes. No changes are made to the opener itself. The MSG100HK acts as a parallel control path. The Aladdin Connect system keeps working through the Genie app, Alexa, and Google Home. Both run at the same time with no conflict.

Retail cost: $35 to $50 at most major online retailers; sale pricing around $35 is common. The Meross device is HomeKit-certified. That means it passes Apple's strict technical requirements and will not break with a future iOS update the way unofficial workarounds sometimes do.

Option 2: HOOBS (for users who already have a smart home hub)

HOOBS (Homebridge Out Of the Box) is a pre-configured Raspberry Pi server running Homebridge. Homebridge is an open-source bridge that translates non-HomeKit smart home devices into HomeKit accessories. If you already use Homebridge or HOOBS for other devices, adding Genie Aladdin Connect support is a one-plugin process.

What it costs:

  • HOOBS hardware box: $100 to $150 (pre-configured Raspberry Pi)
  • Or DIY on a Raspberry Pi 3 or 4: $40 to $60 in hardware plus setup time
  • Homebridge plugin for Aladdin Connect: free (via npm or the Homebridge UI)

When HOOBS makes sense: - You already have Homebridge running for other devices - You want to add multiple non-HomeKit smart devices to Apple Home in one place - You are comfortable with some technical setup and ongoing software updates

If you only want one Genie opener in HomeKit, the Meross MSG100HK is the faster and cheaper path. It needs no server, no updates, and no ongoing maintenance. HOOBS is the better choice when you have five or ten non-HomeKit devices to bring under one roof.

Troubleshooting Aladdin Connect connectivity problems

Before adding a HomeKit bridge, make sure the Aladdin Connect system is working reliably. A bridged device that is offline will not respond in HomeKit.

Common Aladdin Connect issues:

Door does not respond in the app even though status shows correctly. The most common cause is a dead tilt sensor battery. The tilt sensor is a small magnetic piece stuck to the door. It uses a coin cell battery. When that battery dies, the module shows the last known status but cannot send open or close commands. Replace the tilt sensor battery first.

App shows the wrong door status. Unplug the opener for 30 seconds, then plug it back in. This resets the connection and forces a fresh sync between the module and Genie's servers.

Aladdin Connect keeps dropping off Wi-Fi. Check that the signal at the opener is at least two bars. The 2.4 GHz band travels through walls better than 5 GHz, but thick concrete or metal between the router and the opener can still block it. A Wi-Fi extender on the 2.4 GHz band, placed closer to the garage, often fixes drop-out problems.

T-Mobile 5G Home Internet users: T-Mobile's gateway has known issues with some smart home devices on the 2.4 GHz band. If the Aladdin Connect or Meross will not connect, try creating a separate 2.4 GHz SSID on the gateway settings, or call T-Mobile support.

What if I want to replace the whole opener for native HomeKit?

No garage door opener currently offers native built-in HomeKit without a bridge. Chamberlain and LiftMaster dropped HomeKit in 2023. Genie never supported it. As of mid-2026, the Meross MSG100HK is the most reliable and affordable HomeKit path for any opener brand.

If you are buying a new Genie opener, the Genie StealthDrive Connect 7155-TKV includes Aladdin Connect built-in. That gives you Alexa and Google Home control from day one. For HomeKit, add the Meross MSG100HK to that opener the same way you would on an older model. The two systems run side by side without conflict.

Which should I use: Meross MSG100HK or HOOBS?

For most homeowners with one Genie opener who want HomeKit, the answer is the Meross. Buy it online, wire it in over a weekend, and you are done. It has a dedicated HomeKit certification, no server to manage, and a two-year warranty.

If you already have a Raspberry Pi running Homebridge for your smart lights, locks, or thermostats, adding the Aladdin Connect Homebridge plugin takes about 10 minutes. In that case HOOBS costs nothing extra.
